Hundreds of concerts around the world have been cancelled due to the novel coronavirus outbreak. But that has not stopped celebrities from performing from their homes with the goal of raising money to help fight the spread of the disease.
In Malaysia, a talented group of musicians and performers gather their star power to put together Festival Duduk Rumah (also known as #FesDuRu), a free music festival to help frontliners — healthcare professionals, security personnel and support staff — who are battling the pandemic.
The first edition of the festival, which took place on March 22 and broacasted over Facebook Live, managed to raise RM11,180 to benefit Mercy Malaysia and #Meals4Medics, in which all proceeds were used to provide hot meals for hospitals outside of Kuala Lumpur. Additionally, the funds also went into buying and delivering vital medical equipment to assist vulnerable communities.
Now back for the second time, #FesDuRu 2.0 has rounded up homegrown darling Zee Avi; comedian with the Malaysian Association of Chinese Comedians Phoon Chi Ho; classical Indian dance exponent Sandhya Manoj; singer, dietitian and chef Georgen Thye; singer-songwriter Azmyl Yunor; and famous sape player Andrew Kallang.
All proceeds will be channeled to Biji-Biji Initiative and Refuge for The Refugees to create face shields for the frontliners and provide food packs for refugees, migrants and B40 families whose lives are impacted by the MCO.
